Felix forced open the shabby, wooden door. He looked around the room, eyes wide with disbelief. The house that he had been searching for so desperately stood quiet, empty and cold. He took a step inside, out of the biting wind and let the door swing closed behind him. His shoulders sagged as he allowed the heavy pack to drop onto the floor with a dull thud. A cloud of dust rose from where his bag landed and a pile of papers scattered gently across the worn rug. He slumped into a rickety wooden chair that stood in front of the empty fireplace. Exhausted and defeated, it was all too much for him to bear now. He choked back a sob as his eyes burned with tears. As his vision blurrred, he cast his mind back over the day's events.
